Project Offset

Just wanted to make a mention of this particular project. It’s come a long way.

It is looking fantastic.

Links on Wednesday

I’m going to a work function tonight, and will get no sleep for work tomorrow. Hey, at least I’ll get to wear a tie.

  • Bapenguin of Evil Avatar has written a review for Gears of War on PC. I find it immensely disappointing that this extra chapter sounds like it’s a great piece of work and yet it won’t be available as 360 DLC. Poor form, indeed.
  • This guy makes barbarian origami. And unlike Japanese origami, it actually looks like something.
  • Eurogamer has released a review for Call of Duty 4, and in typical CoD fashion it looks quite engrossing. Screenshots here. I’m also glad that, day by day, we’re leaving WW2 themes in the dust. Give it a few more years, and then bring them back.
  • James Bond plays games. Hell, by that logic, that means you can be James Bond as well! emoticon
  • Denis Dyack of Silicon Knights says that the 360 and the PS3 are as good as each other. "Everyone is looking pretty good." Profound.
  • Kane and Lynch will be coming a week early. I’m itching to see this, for some reason. It reminds me a lot of Reservoir Dogs, except everyone is Mr. Blonde.
  • IBM is making a game to "help university students and young professionals develop business and IT skills". I can’t help but wince; it feels like those Christian youth groups that have controlled skating and aerosol art. Like those people who wear cardigans and sensible shoes saying, "Yeah, we’re cool. We’re with it. I’m down with my brethren."
  • Majesco is making a new casual games studio. More casual games for those bored housewives and people killing time at work? Sure, why not. Or maybe the people at work can go entertain the bored housewives.
  • EA Chicago is closing down. Frank Gibeau, President of EA Games, says in an internal memo:
"Within the EA Games Label, we are committed to running each franchise and facility as a city/state, teams with unique creative identities as well as responsibility for product quality, ship dates and profitability….Unfortunately, EA Chicago hasn’t been able to meet that standard."
    Ouch.
