Some big (and controversial?) news today:

  • Assassin’s Creed got some pretty ordinary scores. It looked like it boiled down to repetition, lack of polish in areas and a sudden and abrupt end. Don’t kill the dream for me, don’t kill the dream.
  • On the flip side, Crysis is shaping up fairly well with another solid review, this time from IGN. PCPP gave this a 10 as well, although it also gave Bioshock a 10…but they were stressing that the replayability and the scope were second to none in Crysis, so I’m keen. It looks like 1UP is a bit bitter about the whole thing, though.
  • Another review, this time on NFS: Prostreet - I was expecting this score based on my impressions from the demo. It wasn’t anything new and I doubt the full game would have introduced anything overly revolutionary.
  • Here’s a convincing reason to get a 120GB HDD for your Xbox 360 - the latest Xbox 360 Fall Update will allow you to download full version Xbox 1 games to your console, for the sum of 1200 Microsoft Points (approx. $15). Pretty snazzy.
  • Oh, the 360 might also have support for DivX as well. The PS3, on the other hand, is already set to become certified.
  • Haze is slated for availability on PS3 by year’s end. Oh, the pain of exclusives; a dagger! A dagger through my heart…
  • The Labor Party has no qualms with the current state of the games classification system in Australia. What could kids possibly learn from playing games like Slutfest Massacre VII: The Scatman Comethemoticon
Anyways, I’ve already done a rant about this so there’s not much point in going any further…
  • Bioshock is never, ever, ever coming to PS3. Not that you’re missing out on anything really…but it reminds me of that review from the Sony Defence Force.
  • Another Destructoid tidbit - no more Unreal games based on the original Unreal IP. :(
  • Gamasutra says that male and female gamers are equally competitive. Those damned fembots and their sandy vaginas. emoticon
  • Here’s a Slashdot link to an interesting article on print media versus online media. Do we even have the time to read huge features anymore? Do people even care beyond the bite sized news items that come through their RSS feed? In their defence, I need something to do while I’m on the can, and magazines are a lot easier to manage than a boilerplate laptop.
I got my exam questions, and they’re actually not too bad for 750 - 1000 word jobs. See how I go.
